Does a website need testing?

Once you have built a website there is still quite a bit of work to do, you have to test the site. There are a lot of people who think that they can get away with not doing this but it rarely works out well. There is a lot of coding that goes into building a site and you can pretty safely bet that there was a mistake somewhere. There is little value to building a site that doesn't work properly so make sure that you test it.

In all cases your website will need testing after you have built it. The main thing that you are testing for at this stage is that everything on the site works the way that it is supposed to. You can normally expect to find bugs during this process that you will need to fix. The main things that you are looking for is that the pages load properly, that all of the links work and lead to where they are supposed to go. That your site is laid out the way it is supposed to be and that navigation is easy. This part of the process is fairly straightforward but can be time consuming if you have a large site.

The next step is to test your site in different browsers. One of the issues that you will find when you are building a site is that often a website that works great in one browser won't work at all in another. In most cases when the site was being built there was only one browser used to check on the process. Clearly you want your site to work on as many browsers as possible so you will need to test it for this. In most cases you will be able to fix the problems so that your site works on all browsers.

Once your site is up and running the testing process is not over, you next want to test your site to make sure that it is doing what it is supposed to. This will be most obvious if you using your site to make sales. Once the site has been running for a while you will want to see how many sales you have made. You may also want to test things by making some changes to the site and seeing if that increases or decreases sales. The goal is to get your site optimized so that it is making as many sales as possible.

Once the site is up and running you are also going to want to test it for usability. Making sure the site works properly during the initial testing is one thing but it is a whole new ball game once you start getting millions of visitors to your site. Do things still work properly then? The best way to test this is to hire a company to audit your site.
